I grew up in Oklahoma, so it is easy to understand how I did not like the highly successful quarterback of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Today, I not only like Turner Gill but believe in the plan he was instituting at Kansas University. What I like most about him is how he treats people and how he carries himself, even in adversity. I also believe that, given more time, he would have translated that character into wins on the playing field.
This staff was not yet successful on the field, but they were successful in life. They are dedicated to the young men they mentored, were dedicated to the families they loved and committed to the assignment they were given. No matter what happens to them the rest of their lives, their identity is marked by their character, not their careers. No one can fire them from that. Thanks, Coach Gill and the rest of your staff, for your contribution to our community.
